Ruck

Ruck me, maul me, make me scrum. Rugby is back and so is bad boy, Van Stelson. Love him or hate him, he’s decided that his brother’s happily married life might be what he’s missing.
It’s cold and miserable in Colt, Ohio and the single ladies need a hot male body to heat up their long, lonely nights. But now, Van’s taking a good long look at his friend, Danny. She’s dynamite on a rugby field and his go-to partner when he needs a drinking buddy. She’s not his usual type—dainty, feminine, or curvy. She’s athletic and independent and wants nothing sexually to do with the town’s playboy. Drinking him under the table and listening to his deepest, darkest secrets is another story.
Just friends. Can friendship build into something more without breaking hearts or will Van ruck it up again?
What a fun, quick read! I love friends to lovers stories, and I really loved how Danny turns the tables on Van when he realizes she’s the one he’s been looking for.
I loved both Van and Danny. It was easy to see they were perfect for one another…of course everyone but Van could see it! It was fun getting inside Van’s head as he starts to realize that his days of being the bad-boy man-whore are behind him and he’s ready for something real in his life. He’s the king of denial at first, but once he realizes that he’s looking for a future instead of a right-now he’s committed to making that happen. Danny was that great “one of the guys” character that underneath had a wonderful girly side that very rarely (if ever!) came out. The only thing I would have wished for Danny’s character was that she would have really given it to Van after he first tries to pursue her romantically – I would have loved to have seen/heard that – but knowing how insecure she is I can see why she reacted the way she did…and I love watching her make Van work hard for her!
This was a really great read that worked well as a novella. I didn’t feel the story was rushed. And even though their relationship moved quickly, they had a history so it didn’t seem like it moved to fast. Throw in some signature Holly S. Roberts dirty talk and sexy times, plus some secondary characters and story lines that added some additional depth, and you have a one fun story with emotion, heat and two characters who deserve their happy ever after.
This is the perfect read when you want to watch the hero have to really work for his happy ever after – in other words, a must read for everyone!
I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
