Review - Temptation by Fire by Tiffany Allee

Temptation by Fire
by Tiffany Allee
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Date: May 27, 2014
Publisher: Entangled: Ignite

When Ava has a vision of a man's violent death, experience tells her she can't stop it from happening. For once, she's wrong. She saves him, but in doing so enters a world of manipulative demons and the men who hunt them.

Driven by the memory of his murdered family, Karson toils in the violent, thankless fight against demonkind. Masquerading as humans, demons are always a step ahead. But just when he thinks vengeance will be his, Ava shatters his plans and twists his focus.

Her powers have pushed her away from human contact, but this tattooed hunter with a battered heart draws Ava in. Working with the pretty little psychic is a challenge Karson can handle. But keeping his hands off of her is nearly impossible. With demons on their trail and Ava determined to make things right, keeping his heart safe will be just as tough as keeping Ava alive.

With just a touch Ava Keller can see the future. Living in fear of her visions, Ava is always careful to avoid contact with anyone. When an innocent exchange leads to an inadvertent touch, Ava sees a horrendous vision of a man’s violent death – and she knows from trying to change the outcome of her visions in the past, there is nothing she can do to change the future.

Karson is a man whose past has shaped his future – his family was murdered by demons and he has dedicated his life to seeking justice on the demon who killed them. Working as a Venator, a group whose sole purpose is to fight the demons, Karson’s latest target has possessed the body of Thomas Winston – the man whose touch showed Ava the vision of his death.

When Ava sets off a course of events that threatens her life, Karson finds himself doing everything he can to protect her – even when that protection puts her in further danger. As Ava and Karson work together to fight the demons who are threatening Ava’s life and plotting to destroy humanity, they must also deal with an undeniable attraction that exists between them – an attraction that could prove to be Karson’s undoing.

I really enjoyed this book and appreciated the characters and the rules that Tiffany Allee created for them to play by. It was fun to watch Ava grow as a character – she always had an inner strength, and it was fun to watch her take responsibilities for her actions, stand up to Karson, and ultimately begin to see her “curse” as a gift. Karson was great – totally alpha but broken by the events of his past. So convinced that he cannot allow Ava into his life because she can only be considered a weakness for him – and then realizing that he is weak without her…loved it!

This was a great PNR read, with lots of action and twists and turns that kept me turning the pages and finishing the book in one day. There was plenty of romance and heat between Ava and Karson and I loved the fact that it was used to enhance the suspense of the book and tell their story rather than just being a gratuitous sex scene.

I received an eARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

My Review - 4.5 Stars:

Colin Flynn’s scars run deep. They not only mar his flesh, but have marked his soul and broken his spirit. Returning to Ireland to try and find a way to heal, Colin finds himself searching for anything to help him move past his pain. When he meets Juliana Duffy he thinks she may have the answers he is looking for to start the healing process…

I just loved Colin and Juliana. Lisa Kessler has once again created characters that make you feel every emotion and struggle right along with them. Colin’s inability to move past his injury was heart-wrenching, but you felt that the spark of his spirit was still alive as he looked for a way to move past all that he had lost. Juliana was everything I love in a heroine – strong, willing to do whatever it takes to protect those that she loves, and smart enough to know her limitations. Although she too has suffered loss, she has found a way to move past it, accepting all in her life that she cannot change.

Although this was only a novella in length, the pages are filled with a wonderful love story that had me captivated from the first page. The only complaint I have is that I would have loved to have had more detail regarding the rivalry between Colin, the Night Walker, and Benedict, the Water Horse – I think there was probably a wonderful back story to the history that is alluded to in the book, and I can only imagine what story could have been told in a full length novel. Don’t get me wrong, this book was wonderful – so wonderful that I just want more! Thank you Lisa Kessler for crafting a story that had me living and riding the emotions right along with your characters.

My Review - 4.5 Stars:

I just love when an author can write in such a way that I ride the emotions right along with the characters, and L.L. Collins had me riding right along with every emotion that her characters lived through. From Kayley’s heartache, which had me reaching for the tissues, to all the hopes and fears she lived through as she had to learn to live again, I was so caught up in the story it felt like I was living through events right alongside Kayley.

I could easily see all of the relationships in the book happening in real life, which I think is one of the things that really made this book work for me. From Emily, Kayley’s best friend, to Kayley’s family, it was easy to relate to every character. Alexis was too cute for words, and she definitely stole the page whenever she was around! Even the perfect “Dr. Yummy” Ben had his flaws and issues he needed to deal with, making the story that much more real.

This was a fabulous read and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Some quotes from the book I loved:
"We're all a little broken. We just need the right glue to be put back together again."
"What I told you that day at the therapy center was true, Kayley. We're both broken, in different ways. We can understand the feeling of loss that we both have endured. I think, though, that when the right person comes along, the cracks can start to fill in again, and pretty soon, you can't even hardly see them anymore."
"See, while I think you could go anywhere and make a difference in the world, what is really the most important is making a difference to the people that mean the world to you."
"But I knew you were it. From the moment I saw you, even though I tried to deny it myself, I knew I was in love with you. Like I told you before, it wasn't just that you were the most beautiful woman in the world. I just knew that I had this connection to you that was unexplainable. It was like I needed to know you."
