Series: Whistle Stop Romance, #5
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: October 19, 2017
Needed: A nanny in time for Christmas!
Christian Danser keeps his home at the Broken Arrow Ranch just as his late wife left it: cozy and orderly. With an early winter settling in and the ranch shorthanded, he needs a nanny ASAP.
When Noelle Forrester finds herself unexpectedly unemployed, she and her young son are facing eviction. An ad for a live-in nanny appears to be the answer to her prayers. Until she comes face-to-face with Christian—the sexy yet irritating cowboy who cost Noelle her previous job!
Christian resists hiring the beautiful but failed waitress. She’s too young, too busy, and far too tempting. Nonetheless, when his daughter takes a shine to Noelle, he reconsiders. But when Noelle’s holiday cheer conflicts with Christian’s avoidance of the holiday, sparks fly. Somehow, Noelle has to open Christian’s heart to the spirit of Christmas…or she and her son will be homeless by the New Year.
“Christian, there you are,” Mrs. Sanchez’s familiar voice called out.
He’d known the older woman all his life, and the only time she searched out people was when she needed something from them. He chanced a glance in her direction. She had a clipboard in her hands. He inwardly groaned. She definitely wanted something, and he was certain he wasn’t going to like it. Not one little bit.
His father raised him to stand his ground, and his mother did her best to instill manners in him. So Christian stood there, waiting to find out what Mrs. Sanchez wanted. Knowing her, it could be anything.
When she stopped in front of him, she smiled. “I’m so glad to see you here tonight. It seems like forever since we had Light-Up Night.”
“It has been a number of years.” He was hesitant to say too much, as he wasn’t sure what direction this conversation was about to take.
“It’s a new beginning for Whistle Stop. Isn’t it exciting?”
He nodded.
“You know at the town hall meeting, we voted to do something special for Christmas.” When he didn’t react, she said, “That’s right. You weren’t there.”
He never went to the town hall meetings. They were generally too long and boring. Okay, maybe boring wasn’t the right word for Whistle Stop meetings, but it just wasn’t his thing. “Afraid the ranch keeps me busy most of the time.”
Mrs. Sanchez nodded in agreement. “And yet you made time to be here this evening.”
“It’s for Molly. She really wanted to come see the lights.”
Mrs. Sanchez lit up with a big smile. “The whole town is excited about the holidays. It’s the season of hope.”
The notion of hope was something he’d given up on a long time ago. Wishing and hoping were a waste of time. Things were going to play out whatever way was meant to be. It didn’t much matter what you hoped or wished for, fate would win out in the end. All you could do was cope with the cards life dealt you.
“I really should go check on Molly.” He needed to get away. He didn’t want to talk about the holidays or think about how much he and Molly had lost.
“Wait.” Mrs. Sanchez stepped directly in front of him. “Before you go, I need to ask if you’ll help out.”
