Set the Night on Fire
by Laura Trentham
Series: Cottonbloom, #6
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: July 31, 2018

From award winning author Laura Trentham comes Set the Night on Fire, a novel about starting over, finding your way back home—and falling head over heels. . .

Ella Boudreaux has a lot to prove to her family, friends, and foes—and to herself. So when her marriage ends she decides to invest her energy and money into a place that brings back some of Ella’s happiest memories: the Abbott brothers’ garage. Maybe, if she puts her mind to it, she can teach skeptical, stubborn Mack Abbott how to make the business a true success. Which would be a lot easier if the hunky mechanic didn’t make her motor run quite so fast…and hot.

Mack was furious when his brother, Ford, sold his share of the business. He’s in no rush to team up with a wealthy divorcĂ©e who shows up to the garage in stilettos—and the longest, sexiest legs he’s seen in forever. But Ella’s grit and determination won’t quit…and soon Mack can see that she’s been down a few rough roads herself. Neither Mack nor Ella can deny the fierce attraction that’s revving up between them. Could it be that true love has been in the backseat all along…and they’ve finally found the key?

I just love books where characters are so much more than they appear, and Set the Night On Fire delivers an enemies to lovers romance that proves that perception isn’t always reality, especially when the heart gets involved.

There is so much truth that you shouldn’t judge someone until you get to know them, and this is just the case for both Ella and Mack. Ella has recently arrived in Cottonbloom and does nothing to dispel the rumors that she is living off the settlement from her divorce, even though that is far from the truth. She’s finally in a good place and has put the wreck of her marriage behind her, grown stronger from the scars it caused, and has learned to stand up for herself. Mack runs the Abbott Brothers Garage with his brothers and is seen as gruff and a bit rough around the edges. He’s felt the pressure of keeping the garage afloat since his father passed and has little time to enjoy life, especially when he feels the weight of his family’s world on his shoulders. When Ella buys a 25% stake in his family’s business Mack can’t wait to buy her out and get her out of his life –and watching these two square up against each other was a lot of fun, especially when it’s clear they are also fighting a very strong attraction to one another as well.
“Look, I realize I can be a little…high-handed.”

She snort-laughed.

He rolled his eyes. “A lot high-handed when it comes to the garage. I suppose it sometimes spills over. That’s why I came here in the first place. To apologize for today. For the oil change things. I didn’t mean to humiliate you or hurt your feelings.”

“You didn’t hurt my feelings.” The faint mocking tone in her voice unsettled him.

“You weren’t teary-eyed?”

“Teary?” She shot to her knees on the couch and put them face-to-face. “Your little temper tantrum this morning didn’t hurt my feelings or intimidate me, Mack Abbott. You made me so mad I was ready to break something. Preferable something precious. Like your balls.”
One thing I really loved about both Ella and Mack was their giving, caring, and protective nature. They both showed that it didn’t matter who you were or how well they might have known you, they both would go out of their way to help. From the fundraiser that Ella plans to Mack’s protective nature when Ella’s ex shows up, these two were just genuinely nice people.

This is the first I’ve read in this series and I have fallen in love with the quirky town of Cottonbloom. From the dual nature of the town to the colorful residents, this town won me over just as much as Ella and Mack did. There is a story behind everyone and everything in town and I can’t wait to read more in this series.

I really enjoyed the author’s writing style – the book was easy to read and the plot flowed smoothly. There was great dialogue between the characters and there was a wonderful interplay between the characters, especially when it came to some of the more emotionally charged scenes.

Even though this is part of a series this can be read as a standalone – one that I would highly recommend.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book I received from the publisher from NetGalley.

An award-winning author, Laura Trentham was born and raised in a small town in Tennessee. Although, she loved English and reading in high school, she was convinced an English degree equated to starvation. She chose the next most logical major—Chemical Engineering—and worked in a hard hat and steel toed boots for several years.

She writes sexy, small town contemporaries and smoking hot Regency historicals. KISS ME THAT WAY, Cottonbloom Book 1, won the Stiletto Contest for Best Long Contemporary and finaled in the National Readers Choice Award. THEN HE KISSED ME, Cottonbloom Book 2, was named an Amazon Best Romance of 2016 and was a finalist for the National Excellence for Romance Fiction. TILL I KISSED YOU, Cottonbloom Book 3, is a finalist in the Maggie contest. LEAVE THE NIGHT ON, the latest Cottonbloom book, was named an iBooks Best Book of the Month and a Recommended Read from NPR.

When not lost in a cozy Southern town or Regency England, she's shuttling kids to soccer, helping with homework, and avoiding the Mt. Everest-sized pile of laundry that is almost as big as the to-be-read pile of books on her nightstand.
