Review - Bishop's Knight by Katie Reus

Bishop's Knight
by Katie Reus
Series: Endgame Trilogy, #1
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: July 9, 2019

She needs his protection…

Thanks to years of government training, Evie Bishop knows how to get into places she doesn’t belong—and she’s very good at it. But years of doing black ops work burned her out so she returns home—to unexpected chaos. One of her brothers is in a coma and the other is in hiding, wanted for murder. Then a fellow operative from her past shows up shot and bleeding with news that an assassin is gunning for everyone involved with a past op. She’s forced to turn to the one man she knows she can trust—the man whose heart she broke.

But it will come with a price…

When Dylan Blackwood proposed a year ago, Evie turned him down flat and walked out of his life. He’s stunned when he finds her on his doorstep covered in someone else’s blood, needing his help. He always knew there was more to her than met the eye—that Evie was never simply the pampered society princess she wanted people to believe she was. But he never expected this. If she needs help, he’ll give it. Even if he can’t forget her betrayal. Even if he isn’t sure he can trust her. But his protection will come with a price—her heart. Before they can have a chance at a future, they’ll have to work together to take down a faceless enemy who has Evie firmly in his crosshairs.

What a great start to Katie Reus’ Endgame Trilogy! This one had the perfect blend of romance and suspense as well as being a second chance romance, which is one of my favorite tropes!

I loved both Evie and Dylan and thought they made the perfect couple. Evie is a kick-a$$ heroine who can take care of herself, but she also knows how to ask for and accept help. She’s loyal, especially to her family, and even though her job forces her to compartmentalize her feelings, she does feel deeply. Dylan was such a great matter-of-fact partner for Evie who has some pretty bad-s$$ skills of his own. She ran off after his marriage proposal, and once she shows up on his doorstep he doesn’t think twice about calling her out about her actions…but he also doesn’t think twice about helping her and ensuring she is safe.
What the hell was she thinking, getting all vulnerable in front of him? She walked to the door, her movements stiff and stilted.

“You’re going to tell me all your secrets,” Dylan murmured, his low, sexy one surprising her. And…knocking her off balance.

She started to tell him that he was wrong, that she would never tell him all her secrets. But the words stuck in her throat.
One thing I have enjoyed in every Katie Reus book is that she presents a plot that is easy to follow but still allows for some mystery along the way as to how things are going to play out. Even though there are a lot of things going on in a short time, her writing style and voice make it easy to get caught up in the characters and story, making this an easy read.

This is part of a trilogy, but it is a complete standalone that sets up the next two books, which will focus on Evie’s brothers. There is also a cross-over character to her Red Stone Security series (which if you haven’t picked these up I would also recommend!), which is something I always love when an author does.

This one deserves a spot on anyone’s TBR!

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book I received from the author.
