Review - Reborn Yesterday by Tessa Bailey

Reborn Yesterday
by Tessa Bailey
Series: Phenomenal Fate, #1
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Date: March 16, 2020

It was a night like any other for funeral home director Ginny Lynn, until the
exceptionally handsome—and unfortunately deceased—young man on her
embalming table sat up, opened his emerald eyes and changed the course of her life
forever, making her feel quite fluttery while he was at it.

Humans aren’t supposed to know Jonas Cantrell, or any vampire, exists. It’s kind of a
major rule. Despite his instantaneous bond with perfectly peculiar Ginny, he has no
choice but to erase her memories of their one and only meeting.

That was the plan. Before a reluctant Jonas can wipe Ginny’s mind clean, she reveals
a secret that brings their worlds crashing together. Human and vampire. Past and
present. Darkness and light. And while their love is strictly forbidden, it might be the
only thing that can save them…

A bit slow to pull me in, but before I knew it I was totally enraptured with Jonas and Ginny’s story and this new world that Tessa Bailey has created, and I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series!

I really liked Ginny. She was so unique and I loved that she had an unusual job (as a mortician) and I really loved her quirky sense of style. She was such a throwback with her sewing and her love of old movies, and I loved how she would put herself in her favorite roles when she needed confidence to get through situations. Jonas was everything you would want in a vampire and so much more. In this world that Tessa Bailey has created, Jonas is one of the good guys, and it showed in how he responded to Ginny as well as with his mission to help the newly turned.

What I loved most about this book was the secondary characters and the interplay between everyone. They really helped set up the world that has been created. Jonas’s friends Elias and Tucker were both so different but so loyal to Jonas and the work he was doing. And my favorite was Roksana, the Russian Vampire Slayer, who is charged with keeping an eye on Ginny during the day. She was such a hoot and added so much humor to what could have been a darker story…and it looks like she may be getting her own book next and I can’t wait!
“You are putting me in a tough position, Ginny,” Roksana said, pushing to her feet. “But we will go out. If only because I’ve become a dumb dumb who neglects alcohol and dancing because a bloodsucker asks it of me.” Her lip curled. “They should all have been slaughtered by now.”

Ginny nodded firmly. “Tomorrow.”

“Yes, tomorrow. Tonight we fuck shit up.” The slayer wagged a finger at Ginny’s attire, mischief trickling into her expression. “But first, we find you something a little more exciting to wear. You look like a goth Bo Peep.”
I enjoyed the "timeless" love story that Jonas and Ginny had, but the vampire conflict that Jonas faced did wrap up a bit quickly and I would have liked to have had a bit more backstory, so I’m hoping that some of that will be fleshed out in more detail in future books. This seems to be a very interesting new world that has been created and I’m looking forward to reading more to find out some answers to questions that were left dangling.

Once again, Tessa Bailey has delivered a great story that had heart, humor, and heat and, like always when I read a Tessa Bailey book, would recommend this one to anyone!

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy from the author.
