The love he left behind . . .

Laurel Harlow was once the princess of Bosque Bend, Texas: every door was open to the only daughter of the beloved minister and his well-bred wife. Then scandal rocked their family-and those same doors slammed shut. Now preparing the family mansion for sale, Laurel wants nothing more than to put the past behind her and move on. But when Jase Redlander appears on her doorstep, sixteen years after he left her heartbroken, she can't turn him away . . . especially when he needs her help.

. . . is the only thing worth coming home for

Jase never intended to come back to this one-horse town. But then his teenage daughter runs away, headed straight for Bosque Bend and the woman he once loved. The moment Jase sees Laurel again, he knows he never should have left all those years ago. There's a secret she's keeping from him, though-he's certain of it. Over the course of sunny days and sultry nights, Jase aims to find out what it is. And this time he'll show Laurel that this bad boy can be the man of her dreams . . . if she'll let him.

He ran his hand absently down the groove of her spine, and she shifted against him.

It was amazing how quickly he’d gotten accustomed to sleeping in the same bed with her--all night, not just for an hour after sex. He liked sleeping with her.  He liked waking up with her. He liked walking through the Shallows with her and having meals with her--even when they were as bad as that chicken tonight--and having her sit in the den with him while he worked out business details.

He wanted to put off returning to Dallas forever.

Not your average small town romance!

I’m always a sucker for a second-chance romance, and when you throw in the good girl/bad boy scenario on top of that, then twist things around with reversal of fortune, What the Heart Wants delivered a dark, steamy story that transported me right into Bosque Bend – a small southern town where scandal and social status still reign supreme.

Jeanell Bolton created characters that embodied the spirit of their small town and truly were a product of their upbringing. Although progress has come to Bosque Bend, the “old” society still rules. When Laurel Harlow finds herself being ostracized by the same society that had once hailed her as the “princess” of Bosque Bend, and when the demons from Jase Redlander’s past bring him back to town and back in to Laurel’s life, a tale of love lost, mistakes made, and the search for redemption unfolds.

As I already said, this book is not your average small town contemporary romance. This story takes place in a small town that seems to be stuck in the past, which creates a different backdrop to this second chance love story. There is a darker element to the story line that, for me, gave this small town its personality and added a depth to the plot that I really enjoyed. The secondary characters all had purpose within the story, and there seems to be many stories waiting to be told.

I enjoyed my trip to Bosque Bend and will definitely be looking for the release of the next book in the series.
