by Emily Harper
Series: June Jenson, #1
Genre: Women's Action/Adventure
Release Date: April 16, 2015

June Jenson, an accomplished Oxford professor, has spent her life trying to get out from under the shadow of her infamous grandfather: a renowned archaeologist accused of stealing a relic during an excavation at Sutton-Hoo. When a secret alliance recruits June to guard priceless artifacts she realizes that this is her chance to contribute to the history she loves and rid herself of the cloud of suspicion that her family has lived under for so long. But, when the artifact June is commissioned to guard turns out to be the same relic her grandfather was accused of stealing− a relic he has consistently claimed never existed − her carefully laid plans of family redemption are a bit shot. Now, with the aid of her accused grandfather who suffers from early onset Alzheimer’s, and a chauffeur who’s looking for a scandal to make him famous, June must race to discover the truth of the shield and what really happened at Sutton-Hoo all those years ago.

I’m in trouble.  And not just, “Oh bugger, I’ve lost the car keys and I’m late for a lecture” trouble.
No, this is a full-on “The world as we know it will come to an end unless I figure this out” kind of trouble.
Alright, it’s not quite that bad.  It would only be England.
The point is, I can’t do this alone.  I have to ask someone for help.  The last person I would ever possibly want to admit defeat to.
“Professor,” I say, poking my head through his study’s doorway.  “Have a moment?”
He looks up over the edge of his spectacles sitting on the tip of his nose.  His hand holds a pen that hovers over the pages he was just reading.
“Depends, June bug,” he says.  “Is this about what I’d like for tea, or is this your way of crawling back with your tail between your legs?”
I pause to think for a moment.
     “The second one.”
“Excellent.  In that case, most definitely,” he says, putting down his pen.
“Well, the thing is−” I start, but the Professor interrupts me by holding up his hand.
“I told you, when you originally scoffed at my help, that this would happen,” he says, leaning back in his chair.  “They always come bloody crawling back to Professor Albert Arthur Jenson.  And I also believe I told you what would have to happen when you came groveling back.”
My nostrils flare as we glare at each other.
“Oh, ever wise one,” I begin through clenched teeth.  “I’ve come to seek knowledge from your vast wisdom if you would only be so kind.”
     “Eternal,” he says.
     “What?”
“It was eternal wisdom.  My knowledge isn’t bloody vast, it’s all encompassing.”
I will myself to remain calm.
“Fine.  Your eternal wisdom,” I force out.
“And you were supposed to bring me a glass of whiskey when you came crawling back,” he argues.
“I was to do no such thing!”  I say, shaking my head.  “You are not supposed to drink with your medication.”
“Are you sure?” he asks frowning while clearly trying to search his brain for the answer.  “I’m sure I would have asked for a glass.  Doesn’t seem like me…”
“Professor, listen, this problem is very time sensitive.” I say, leaning forward in my chair and trying to bring him back to the present problem at hand.  “Are you able to help me or not?”
“Of course, I am able to,” he says, shaking his head.  “The question is: are you going to be able to accept my help?”
