New York Times bestselling author Katy Regnery returns with the second book in her Odds-Are-Good series!

When a lonely vet(eran) and an ambitious vet(erinarian) work together to win the Qimmiq 200, sparks will fly…

Montana-born veterinary student, Juliet Sanderson, is disappointed when her project on the treatment and care of sled dogs falls through due to the illness of a local musher. In an effort to salvage her study and graduate, she answers the personal ad of Alaskan musher, Cody Garrison, who is desperately seeking a teammate for an upcoming co-ed race, The Qimmiq 200.

Cody Garrison, a retired U.S. Marine, doesn’t tell Juliet that he was left permanently disabled during his time in active service, fearing that she wouldn’t agree to race with him if she knew. But once she arrives in Alaska, discovering the truth about Cody’s past will be inevitable. Will the partnership they’ve agreed to, and the off-the-charts chemistry between them, be enough to see them through the rigors of training and secure them the win of their lives?

Another unique and wonderful love story from Katy Regnery that had emotion and heart, and left me truly believing in happy ever afters.

This is the second story in the Odds Are Good series and I’m really enjoying how the author has put together stories with some unusual aspects. The settings, circumstances, and characters all have a uniqueness about them that are woven into a story that delivers an emotional punch without being too angsty, something that I really enjoy.

Both Cody and Juliet were written so well. The initial concerns that Cody had about Juliet learning about his disability and seeing how that all played out set the stage for me with these two. The emotion behind Cody’s vulnerability and then Juliet’s acceptance could easily be felt in the words on the page. I also loved the fact that these two just sort of fell into their relationship and just went with where their feelings took them. I’m not a big fan of a lot of angst, and I loved these two even more as they worked through understanding their emotions and then trying to figure out what that meant long term.
“I’m all over the place,” she says, her eyes glassy and confused.

“I’m not.”

I’m right here with you, and it’s the only place in the universe I want to be.

Her lips twitch for a second, then tilt up. “Then you anchor us, Cody, okay?”

Us.

It’s such a little word. Such a tiny word. Two small letters shouldn’t have the ability to make my heart swell with so much tenderness for her, but they do.
As I already mentioned, I am truly loving the uniqueness of the stories in this series. It was clear that Katy Regnery did her homework when it came to Alaska as well as all the aspect surrounding the sled dogs and the sport itself, and I loved watching Cody and Juliet’s relationship build from their mutual respect of the dogs, and then a respect for the sport as they trained and competed.

There weren’t many supporting characters, but the ones that were in the book added so much to the story. I just loved Jonas and Rita and how protective and supportive they were of Cody. Juliet’s family was great and I loved how welcoming they were to Cody. Juliet’s friend Silvi I could have done without – even though she was the one to show Juliet the ad in the paper I was not happy with most of her advice, especially at the end! And don’t even get me started on Glenn…

This was another great story from Katie Regnery that was easy to read but also packed an emotional punch. I would definitely recommend checking this one out.
