Review - The Werewolf Wears Prada by Kristin Miller

The Werewolf Wears Prada
by Kristin Miller
Series:  San Francisco Wolf Pack, #1
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Date: April 28, 2015

Falling in love bites…

Melina Rosenthal worships at the altar of all things fashion. Her dream is to work for the crème de la crème fashion magazine, Eclipse, and she’ll do much anything to get there. Even fixing up the image of a gorgeous, sexy public figure who’s all playboy, all the time. Even if he’s the guy who broke her heart a year ago…

Even if Hayden Dean is a werewolf.

Since his father’s death, Hayden’s the heir apparent to the San Francisco Wolf Pack—well, once he settles down. Hayden isn’t interested in giving up his partying ways, except he’s pretty sure he’s found his fated mate, and the fact that she’s a non-shifter is bad news. Now he must find a compromise between the traditions of his wolf world and his certainty that Melina is his…before fate (or another werewolf) bites them both in the butt.

I so enjoy Kristin Miller’s werewolves and this new series has me smiling at the thought of more books to come! One of the things I love about Ms. Miller’s werewolves is that they seem to seamlessly integrate into society, giving you the feeling that they could really exist. There’s quite a bit of lore and werewolf pack activity, but so many of the issues are so easy to relate to that it makes for a comfortable read.

So you have Hayden, who is slated to take over as the alpha of the pack…but of course his playboy reputation isn't helping his case. Then there is Melina, who is not Hayden’s biggest fan since she was stood up by him a year ago, and when she finds out her career hinges on changing his image let’s just say she’s less than pleased. Never mind she has no idea that werewolves exist, or the fact that she is Hayden’s fated mate, and let’s not even mention the fact that her being close to Hayden has her landing in the middle of a werewolf war…yep, Melina’s life is about to get interesting!

This was such a fun read. In typical Kristin Miller fashion I found myself laughing out loud and wishing I could be part of the pack. Miller has such a way with words – the sarcasm, humor, and double entendres that she works in to her stories never fail to make me smile. I especially loved the initial set-up, which finds Melina determined to not let Hayden get to her. She’s going to play him just like he played her a year ago…and she just cracked me up!
“Raiders would've clenched the win.” Melina shrugged nonchalantly, and strode toward the door. “Maybe next time”

“You’re just upset the Niners won,” Hayden said, swiveling to face her.

“They didn't win…not really.” Melina waved, blew a kiss – Hayden’s own cheesy signature – and then whispered a single line that’d haunt any hot-blooded man. “The other team just sucks harder.” She spoke the last words slowly, drawing the primal meaning from them.

Hayden stared, his mouth falling open as she winked slowly and marched out of the room.

He wasn't the only one who could play games.

Girl power, for the win.
The chemistry between Hayden and Melina was hot – you could feel the tension every time they were together, and when they finally let loose, wow, H-O-T doesn't even begin to describe these two! I did find myself getting a bit frustrated with Hayden at times – he has some real issues with commitment that I understood, but I just wanted him to get with the program a little bit quicker. But these two were definitely made for each other and could each give as well as they got.

In addition to the romance surrounding Hayden and Melina, we were also thrown in to the middle of a pack war and some internal pack politics and issues. There was some mystery, some action – loved watching Melina deliver some “killer fashion” and “death by Jimmy Choo”, a bit of angst - *smack* to Hayden for some of his thoughts on a mate, and a lot of fun hot times between Hayden and Melina.

This book was a great start to a new series that I look forward to reading more of. The supporting characters added color and depth to the story and I can’t wait to see who we’ll get to read about next. Another great read by Kristin Miller with well-developed characters and an intriguing plot all set in a the fabulous world she has created for her werewolves.
