A Royal Disaster by Jennifer Bonds - New Release and Review

A Royal Disaster
by Jennifer Bonds
Series: Royally Engaged, #1
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: November 30, 2020

Elena Murphy is doing just fine--if you don't count her struggling art studio, her ex-boyfriend suing her, and accidentally tossing purple paint onto a man who just happened to be in the wrong place at the very worst time. And not just any man, but freaking royalty. The World's Most Eligible Bachelor, to be exact, with the paparazzi catching the whole embarrassing incident on camera.

Could her life be any more of a dumpster fire?

Yes it could. Now she's getting dragged online and her clients are disappearing faster than free drinks at happy hour. And just when she thinks things can't possibly get worse...His Royal Hotness decides the best way to fix this mess is to make her the envy of New York--by pretending to date.

Because what's worse than a prince treating her like his very own Cinderella, including dreamy nights at the theater and a nearly X-rated pottery date?

Reminding herself it's all fake.

When royalty meets a walking disaster you know you are in for a fun read, but this book delivered more than just a Cinderella story with some laughs, it also had emotion and heart with a swoon-worthy prince and a heroine who was genuine and real.

Liam and Elena were quite the couple. The prince who puts his country and duty first and the starving artist who always seems to find herself creating some sort of chaos seem an unlikely pair, but ultimately they are just what each other needed to find the happiness they deserve. These two had so much chemistry and I loved their ability to laugh and find humor through all the disasters that seemed to follow them around. And for all that Liam did for Elena both professionally and emotionally, it was the way Elena treated Liam and how she showed him that someone could care for him as a person and not just a prince that really made this story work for me.
“What would you have me do when her presence, her sass, the utter rightness of our connection is like a lifeline amid the chaos and stress of my daily life?” He closed his eyes and exhaled. “When I’m with her, I feel more myself than I have in ages. I don’t have to put on royal airs or pretend to be anything other than who I am.”
There were some great secondary characters in this book that deserve their own stories, and I can’t wait to see what those may be. Elena’s best friend Nia is a hoot and Liam’s younger brother sounds like quite the walking scandal, and then there’s Fin, Liam’s best friend and assistant, who seems like the perfect candidate for his own happy ending. Liam’s parents left a bit much to be desired, so it will be interesting to see if/how they are woven into any future stories as well.

This was a fun read that had lots of humor but also a lot of heart. The story did feel a bit over the top at times and did slow down a bit in the middle, but ultimately came together to leave me smiling and laughing and happy that fairytales sometimes do come true.

Jennifer Bonds writes sizzling contemporary romance with sassy heroines, sexy alphas, and a whole lot of mischief. She's a sucker for enemies-to-lovers stories, laugh out loud banter, and over the top grand gestures. Jennifer lives in Pennsylvania, where her overactive imagination and weakness for reality TV keep life interesting. She's lucky enough to live with her own real life hero, two adorable (and sometimes crazy) children, and one rambunctious K9. Loves Buffy, Mexican food, a solid Netflix binge, the Winchester brothers, cupcakes, and all things zombie. Sings off-key.
