Review - Loving Ellie by Lindsey Brookes

Loving Ellie
by Lindsey Brookes
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: February 10, 2014

Ellie Sanders is pregnant and alone. Carrying a child she’d conceived the one and only time she’d lain with her closest friend, Jarrett Tanner. A man she’d agreed to marry for the sake of their child. A man she’d loved, but not as he’d deserved. And now he was gone.

Lucas Tanner returns home to settle his younger brother Jarrett’s estate only to discover his brother left behind a very pregnant fiancée. Having lost his own wife and their baby she’d been carrying years before, he’s bound and determined to stick around and make sure Ellie’s child makes it safely into the world. Even if it means facing the ghosts of his past.

Struggling financially and emotionally, Ellie is torn between keeping her baby and giving it up for adoption. She wants to give her child the chance she never had - to be raised by two loving parents. If only she could make Lucas understand. And, if only she wasn't falling for a man with no heart left to give.

Lucas finds himself wanting more. Wanting Ellie. But what if he gives in to his deepening feelings and loses her, too?

One fears abandonment. The other fears loss. Can Ellie and Lucas put their painful pasts behind them and finally find true happiness? Or are the emotional walls they've built up around their hearts too strong to tear down?

Loving Ellie is a book about heartbreak and loss, learning to love and trust again, and learning to let go. Lucas and Ellie were great characters, both dealing with issues from their past, and both trying to figure out how to move on after their worlds have once again been torn apart with the loss of Jarrett – Lucas’s brother and Ellie’s fiancé.

I just loved Lucas and my heart went out to him with the losses he has suffered. Ellie was great as well, but she did get me a bit frustrated at times when it came to her pregnancy, but I think that was more of a personal philosophy issue for me. Their love story starts slow and simmers through the book. The story focuses on their connection emotionally and the healing process they must both go through, so if you are looking for a steamy romance read, this is not it. What you will get is a very touching story of two people who learn to love and trust each other while trying to come to terms with their pasts, and helping each other heal in the process.

I also enjoyed the secondary story in this book surrounding the Sheriff, Blaine, and the girl he fell for years ago, Victoria. It was wonderful to have that little sub-plot happening, and I really enjoyed how Blaine and Victoria’s story was used as a way to add depth to the relationship between Lucas and Ellie.

This was a very nice read with lots of emotion and sweet romance.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.
