With lots of action and a different spin about werewolves than other books, the Blood Moon Brotherhood looks to be a promising series.
Finn is constantly fighting his wolf, and based on how his transformation occurred, it’s no surprise that he considers his werewolf nature a curse. When a woman he had an affair with dies after giving birth to his child he finds himself totally unprepared for what that means – it’s bad enough that he has never even considered being a father, but not knowing how his wolf nature will manifest in his child has brought some serious ramifications to not only him, but his pack.
Enter Jessa – a blessing and a curse to Finn. His wolf instantly recognizes her as his mate, and you can feel the bonds develop between not just Finn and Jessa, but also between baby Oscar. Jessa was really great – she’s had to raise her younger siblings so she’s no stranger to all things baby, but what I really loved was her protective nature – and not just to baby Oscar, but to her siblings, to Finn, and to his extended pack family. She may have been hired to be a short term nanny, but she brings so much more to Finn’s life.
There was a lot of time where Finn was fighting and denying the attraction between himself and Jessa, but once Finn accepts that Jessa is his, he’s fully on board with what his wolf has wanted from the beginning. And since Jessa and Oscar need protection from an all-out assault from the “others”, it’s a good thing Finn has gotten on board with his wolf!
There was a bit of a dark feel to this book. It was a bit edgy and had some darker moments, and you could really feel the evil lurking around the plot. I loved the twists to the werewolf lore that occur in this book’s world and the mystery surrounding Finn and his pack and the “others” (and just what is it about that bone?!!!) I did feel a slight disconnect between Jessa and Finn at times, it seemed that the emotional connection between the two didn’t fully evolve until the end, so some of their interactions seemed just a bit off during the first part of the book – not a big deal, but I was happy to see them finally get to a place where their actions and words felt like they in synch with each other.
Although I did enjoy this book, I was a bit disappointed at the ending, which left me hanging a bit and is why I only rated this one 3 stars. Since this is book one of the series I didn’t necessarily need a HEA, but I felt like I was left just short of a HFN and maybe one more chapter or tying up one more loose end would have given me that. There is enough great stuff about the world that has been created and the characters that I will definitely be looking for others in the series.
