Review - Man Killer by Misty Evans

Man Killer
by Misty Evans
Series: SEALs of Shadow Force: Spy Division, #2
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: March 12, 2019

Mick Ranger sacrificed his freedom to keep his country safe.
Now he’s out of prison and has nothing to lose…

Known as the King Killer, Navy SEAL Mick Ranger has a reputation for eliminating radical leaders and breaking out of enemy prisons with the speed and precision of an action hero. After rotting for two years behind iron bars in a foreign country waiting for a rescue from the US government, aid comes in a tight-fitting skirt and heels.

Cassandra Donovan, attorney and newly appointed chief operating officer of Shadow Force International, never expected her boss to send her on a mission to break a SEAL out of prison. Worse, she must recruit the handsome lieutenant to the SFI team in order to stop an extremist threatening the world with an incurable virus. The King Killer is just the man to do the job, but Mick won’t sign the contract. He seems more interested in getting her in bed than stopping a pandemic. How far will Cassie go to complete her first mission and will she lose her heart in the process?

Shadow Force International: A group of former SEALs, abandoned by the United States and labeled as rogue operatives, now work as a black ops team performing private intelligence, security, and paramilitary missions for those who have nowhere else to turn. Some of them find romance along the way and lose their hearts protecting those they love at all costs.

I am absolutely loving this series from Misty Evans! Man Killer delivered everything I love in a romantic suspense, with a perfect balance of action, intrigue, heart, and heat.

Mick Ranger is my kind of hero – yeah, he’s a bit cocky and can come off as a bit cavalier, but the man has mad skills so he’s definitely earned the ego.
He walked toward the helicopter, noting the sniper in position to mow down the bad guys following him, but the weapon in his hand felt good, solid. He hadn’t held a gun in all this time and some sleeping part of him came awake.

He preferred hand-to-hand combat, but there were circumstances when a weapon, besides his fists, was necessary. As he saw the sniper take aim, he didn’t look back, but casually fired off a couple shots in the direction of the guards in pursuit.

Hunter was laughing as he reached down to clasp Mick’s arm and haul him inside. Mick’s butt landed in a seat, and looking back, he saw he’d killed them both.

I’ve still got it.
What I loved most about Mick was his heart. After everything he’s been through it would be easy to understand if he had more hard edges, but there was a gentleness about him that Cassie brings out. His instinct to protect is off the charts, but he isn’t overbearing, letting Cassie do what she needs to while making sure she is safe.

Cassie was the perfect partner for Mick. She’s not an agent, but she’s smart and she knows how high the stakes are when it comes to this mission, so she’s not afraid to step in when it becomes clear that she is needed. From their first encounter Mick has her all hot and bothered, and it was fun to watch this normally straight-laced, business-focused woman struggle to keep herself together when Mick is around.

This book starts with a bang – literally – and ends with a showdown, and as much as I loved the action, I just loved how great Mick was for Cassie. He was exactly what she needed to move past her insecurities and begin to see herself as others do – and he did it all without fanfare or drama, just with a matter-of-fact attitude that didn’t leave room for any excuses. There was no shortage of chemistry between these two, and I loved how confident Cassie was with Mick when it came to their sexy times – totally hot!

One of my favorite things about this series is that there are always a few characters from other books in the series that make an appearance and they always add the right something extra to the story, be it friendship or logistics to make the plot sound. And I’m a huge Beatrice fan (she runs SFI), so I always look forward to seeing how she gets woven into each story.

If you love romance or suspense, Misty Evans always delivers the perfect pairing and her books should definitely be on your TBR!
