Review - Beneath These Chains by @Meghan_March

Beneath These Chains
by Meghan March
Series: Beneath, #3
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 16, 2015

I was raised on the streets, so I know things are rarely as simple as they appear—especially this rich girl showing up at my pawnshop demanding a job.

She’s the most tempting thing I’ve ever seen, and I’ll be damned if I can make her leave.

Shit just got complicated … but when it comes to her—I want complicated.

We’re both fighting our own demons, and our only chance at a future is to let go of the past.

But will we be strong enough to break free from beneath these chains?

Once again I am blown away by the writing of Meghan March. The Beneath series has quickly become one of my favorites and I can’t say enough about the story, the characters, and everything else about this book. I think Lord and Elle are my new favorite couple from this series!

We met both Lord and Elle in the previous book and although we learned a bit about Lord, we really didn’t know much about Elle. There is so much more to these two than meets the eye, and I loved watching their story unfold. Lord has bought the pawn shop from his brother Con and is trying to make it a success. In spite of a less than desirable upbringing, which led him to the service rather than prison, he has become a man of honor who values hard work and honesty. Elle’s “perfect” upbringing has been less than perfect, and she is fighting the demons from her past, starting with the loss of her father and then her mother’s less than supportive new husband. She’s haunted by an accident from her past and is afraid of losing control and turning into everything her mother has become. When Elle walks in to Lord’s pawn shop you could just feel the sparks between these two. I absolutely loved the way their love story unfolded and don’t think any other course of events would have worked for these two knowing their history.

The mystery/suspense part of the book worked as well. The murders are piling up and they all seem to tie back to Lord and/or Elle. It was great to have Detective Hennessey working the case, and I loved having Rix, the local gang leader, be around to stir the pot. I have to say I was totally surprised by the ending with this one, which doesn’t happen too often, and what an ending it was. Watching the pieces fall in to place and the events unfold were written perfectly. It wasn’t dragged out but there was tons of emotion.

This is one of my favorite reads so far this year and I cannot wait for the next book! Bring it on Meghan March!
