Review - A Lush Betrayal (Lush, #1) by Selena Laurence

A Lush Betrayal
by Selena Laurence
Series: Lush, #1
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: February 22, 2014

Joss Jamison has it all. He's the lead singer for the world's hottest rock band, Lush. He's wealthy, sexy, talented...and miserable. Twelve months ago, Joss lost his finely honed control and made a mistake he can't undo. A mistake that could end up costing him his best friend, his band, and maybe his heart.

Mel DiLorenzo has it all. She's been hired to document the world tour of her sister's fiance's rock band. She's gorgeous, talented, loved...and sick of being the little sister. When she agrees to the summer job, Mel has no idea she's walking into a minefield of friendships lost and hearts destroyed. She also has no idea what it means to be the object of Joss Jamison's affections.

One hot rock star plus one life-altering mistake, add a dash of sexy younger sister and a handful of broken hearts, and you've got a recipe for fire. Life on the road can be hot, but for the boys of Lush, it's about to get a whole hell of a lot hotter.

Wow – I’m not sure where to even begin with this review. There was so much going on in this story it’s hard to know where to start. This is a story of betrayal, it’s a story of hope, it’s a story of hitting rock-bottom and pulling yourself back up on your feet, and it’s a story of love.

When Joss meets the grow-up version of Mel DiLorenzo, he doesn't know what hits him. Mel has been hired to do a photo-documentary of Joss’s band Lush, and is travelling with the band during their summer tour. Although Mel’s sister Tammy, who is also the band’s manager and engaged to Walsh, the band’s bassist, has warned her to stay away from Joss, Mel can’t fight the very strong feelings and attraction between her and Joss. And once Mel & Joss begin their affair, it soon becomes apparent that their relationship is so much more than a fling. Unfortunately, the past always has a way of catching up with you, and when secrets are revealed, relationships and friendships are tested beyond the breaking point, and no one is left standing.

This story was filled with lots of angst, but balanced by the promise that love can heal the wounds that have scarred you from the past. Watching Joss realize that Mel is it for him, she’s the anchor that will keep him grounded, was wonderful. Mel has been taken care of by her sister Tammy her whole life, and when push comes to shove regarding her relationship with Joss, it was fun to watch her come into her own and stand up to Tammy, but then being Tammy’s rock when she needed it.

I really enjoyed this book and liked the fact that the story focused on so much more than the excesses of a rock star life. Although Walsh has recently completed a stint in rehab, the story focused more on the relationships between the band members and Tammy & Mel than the episodes of destructive behavior. I was left kind of hanging with the ending, but am happy to see that Tammy & Walsh will be getting their own story.

I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review.

  1. That sounds pretty good Margaret! I've enjoyed the rocker ones I've read so far. Nice that the angsty bits were balanced out :)

    1. This has the makings of a really great series. Book 2 (For the Love of a Lush) was even better - more angst..quite the emotional ride!
