Can Jesse Hamilton, the head of H.I.S., protect his client when his past and his heart have put them both in jeopardy?
When FBI Special Agent Kate Ross is injured in a drive-by shooting, Hamilton Investigation and Security, Inc. (H.I.S.) leader Jesse Hamilton, believing she is the target of a killer seeking revenge against him, pulls the full force of H.I.S. into action to protect her.
Kate doesn’t believe Jesse, the only man to make her seethe one minute and lust after him the next, when he approaches her with a note from the Facilitator stating someone he loved would die shortly, and he knows in his gut it’s Kate. After a second attempt on her life, she can no longer fight his protection or her attraction to him.
After making a mistake that cost his wife her life, Jesse vowed to never love again, but Kate stirs something in him that puts his protective instincts into overdrive. Keeping her alive and out of his heart is more difficult than he expected. Then he makes a decision that could cost Kate her life. Is history due to repeat itself?
How long would it take for him to turn into an ass again? She caught Jesse’s gaze and found herself momentarily mesmerized by his golden-brown eyes. What the hell?
Character Spotlight
Character spotlight: Jesse Hamilton - oldest Hamilton brother, head of Hamilton Investigation and Security, Inc. (H.I.S.), widower and father
So I hear you want to know a little about me. Let’s see, I like Mexican food, sports and The Godfather movies (what red-blooded man doesn’t?) and long walks in the rain. I had my first kiss when I was 12 from a neighborhood girl, Greta Wallace. But, I’d rather tell you how I got to this point in my life.
As the oldest of four brothers, one foster brother and one sister, I’ve always felt like the responsible one. After our mother passed, I had no choice but to be the responsible one since our father was busy as a U.S. Senator. You have no idea how hard it was to keep this bunch in line. Devon wasn’t too much trouble, but the twins. Well, they could give anyone gray hair at an early age. Jake and AJ kept to themselves and stayed out of trouble, mostly.
Our father required us to go to college. Boy that was a fun few years that I wasn’t sure I would survive. After college I joined the U.S. Army and eventually became a Ranger sniper. Taking that first shot was harder than I thought it would be. Too much time away from my wife made me decide to leave the military. An old friend convinced me to join the FBI and I loved it. It wasn’t long after that I lost my wife. We did have a beautiful daughter, Reagan, who is the apple of my eye.
I had a particularly bad day on a case I’d been working for a long time. Over drinks, I found two of my brothers, Devon and Matt, were also fed up with the things they dealt with at work. So we decided to start Hamilton Investigation and Security, Inc., H.I.S. Last year, Matt’s twin Brad joined us. We’ve done well and have been fortunate enough for old buddies to join our team.
That brings me to my most recent job where I met this beautiful but feisty FBI agent who happens to be my brother’s partner. I tried to distance myself from her, but things got complicated. Really complicated. She was the last thing I needed in my life.

Sheila has been an avid reader since she was young, believing in fantasy worlds, women sleuths and happily-ever-after. Instead of writing as a career, she followed in her father’s footsteps and joined the U.S. Air Force. After 12 years, she left the military as a disabled veteran then spent 12 year in higher education executive leadership. After reading her first romantic suspense novel, Sheila finally knew what she wanted to write. She has since retired to fulfill that dream. When not writing, she reads or spends time with her family. She lives in Batesville, Mississippi with three rescue cats.
