Tomboy
by Avery Flynn
Series: Hartigans, #3
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: February 18, 2019

How exactly has one good deed landed me in the penalty box?

Ice Knights defenseman Zach Blackburn has come down with the flu, and my BFF—his PR manager—begs me to put my nursing degree to use and get him back to health. Of course she would call in a favor for the most hated man in Harbor City.

But when he’s finally on the mend and I’m sneaking out of his place, everything goes sideways. Paparazzi spot me and pictures, plus accusations that I slept with him, fly faster than a hockey puck.

At first, all of Harbor City wants my blood—or to give me a girlie-girl makeover. But then…the team finally wins a game. And now this fickle town wants me with the big jerk twenty-four seven.

Argh. I never slept with him the first time! But no one will listen. Then the grumpy bastard goes and promises to break his no-fan-appearances rule to help raise money for a free health clinic—but only if I’m rink-side at every game. That’s not a deal I can turn down.

But when the team keeps winning, and I realize there’s more to him than his bad reputation, suddenly remembering to keep my real hands off my fake date gets harder and harder to do.

Another great read from Avery Flynn with all the humor and heart that I have come to expect. I have been a fan of Ms. Flynn’s for a long time and have yet to be disappointed when I open up a new book from her.

I was on #TeamZuck from the moment Fallon rang the buzzer on Zack’s front door and refused to back down. Fallon was everything I love in a heroine – she takes no crap from anyone, refuses to change who she is for anyone, but will also give all of herself to help anyone. Zack was your typical macho athlete, but underneath the cavalier attitude there was a lot he was dealing with that he never let anyone see – until Fallon somehow gets past all his defenses. These two together had that serious love/hate thing going on – but boy was it clear that as soon as they fell they were going to fall hard and fast and steam up pages. I loved the banter between the two, whether it was face to face or via text message, and there was no shortage of both laughs and dirty-talking that they could dish out. But what I loved most was that underneath all the jabs and jokes these two really cared about one another and were just what the other needed.
“You really like guacamole, huh?” she asked as she looked back over her shoulder at him, her voice huskier than it had been moments ago.

Busted. He searched her face for signs of her being offended. Instead of shock or annoyance, though, there was nothing but heated curiosity mixed with lust in her gaze, which made his blood rush south.

“Yes.” He shifted his stance so he was more directly behind her, while still keeping an inch or two of space between them. “It’s totally my kink.”

The right side of her mouth curled up in a half smile as she took half a step back, so they were pressed up against each other again. “Brings new meaning to food porn.”
One of the things that makes this such a fun series is the cast of characters that surrounds the main characters. The Hartigan family is larger than life and tight as can be. They are all in each other’s faces but would go to the mat to defend and protect each other without even asking why. Fallon’s friends are exactly what I’d want in my BFFs – sassy, snarky, and supportive, and not afraid to kick your butt when you needed it. And getting to meet some of Zack’s teammates added even more fun to the mix – and I can’t wait to get my hands on some hot hockey stories that are in the works!

This is the third book in the series but can easily read as a standalone. There are tie-ins to the previous books as well as other series by the author, but enough back-story is given when needed to make this work on its own.

If you haven’t read an Avery Flynn book you are in for a treat, so grab this one and see what you have been missing – but be warned, you will probably want to go back and read her entire backlist of books once you do! And, if you have read one of her books, then you’ll get more of the sass and snark that you would expect all wrapped up in hot romance package.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy from the publisher via NetGalley of this book.
