CIA operative Zara Morgan—codename Tango—has a reputation in Conrad Flynn’s secret army as a renegade. Once held at gunpoint by terrorist Alexandrov Dmitri, she was seconds from saving herself and arresting Dmitri when Lt. Commander Lawson Vaughn, the sexy leader of a covert ops team, intervened. She’s never lived down the fact that everyone—including her boss—believes Lawson is her knight in shining armor.

Former Navy man Lawson Vaughn doesn't consider himself anyone’s savior. He lives and breathes protocol and hates the fact that his latest assignment is to babysit Zara while she hunts down Dmitri and stops the terrorist from releasing a biological weapon on the world.

But from the time they touch down in Paris, Lawson can’t resist Zara’s sassy attitude and dauntless bravery in the face of danger. When Dmitri kidnaps Zara and injects her with the contagious and deadly virus, Lawson is once again forced to come to her rescue, whether she likes it or not.

With unflinching determination and steadfast courage, Lawson must break all the rules to save Zara, even if it means becoming the one thing he can’t stand…a renegade.

Book 1: Operation Sheba

This was a great read that kept me turning the pages to see how everything was going to work out. Zara and Lawson were great characters and it was fun watching the two of them dance around the attraction that existed between them. Since they have been partnered together to bring down the terrorist Alexandrov Dmitri – the same man who held Zara at gunpoint and was ultimately taken down by Lawson and his team of operatives – Zara and Lawson have done nothing but try to show each other who is in charge of their current partnership. When circumstances find them on the run, their relationship turns more than professional, but when Zara once again falls into Dmitri’s hands, Lawson will do whatever it takes to save her.

I just loved Zara! She was smart, capable, sassy, and knew how to stand up for herself. Her actions are definitely influenced by the events of her past, but she has learned to use her experiences to mask herself and take on other personas, which has certainly enabled her to be effective in her role as a spy. I love how she was never afraid to get all up in Lawson’s face and let him know she was capable of taking care of herself, but she also realized that there were times when she needed to have back-up and take orders to ensure that the mission would be able to be executed properly.

Lawson was you typical cocky, arrogant, sexy as all get out alpha male. Because of events in his past, he has always taken on the role of a rescuer and lives for his next mission where he has the opportunity to save someone. From the first time he sees Zara he knows he’s definitely interested in finding out more about her, but the reality is a classy, rich girl like Zara would never be happy with a regular guy like him, and even if she was, she definitely deserved more than he could ever give or provide. Of course when he and Zara are partnered together to bring down Dmitri, there’s no way he can control the attraction that is simmering between them.

Zara and Lawson together are just hot – sparks fly from the moment they partner up in the airport right through the end of the book. I loved the competitiveness between the two – and loved the bantering back and forth as they would try to one-up each other.
“I can out-cuss you anytime, anyplace.”

Was she challenging him to a swearing match? Obviously, she’d forgotten he was ex-Navy and a Special Forces commando to boot. And, quite honestly, just being a man gave him the upper hand in the swearing department. “Is that so?” he egged her on. “Shall we test your theory?”

Her breath hitched and determination pinched her lips into a think line. “I know at least a hundred swear words in six different languages,” she bragged. “Top that.”

Up to that moment, Lawson hadn't been worried about winning a swearing contest against anyone, especially not a girl. His vast repertoire of swear words was a thing of beauty. But when Zara’s challenge registered, he mentally used a few of his favorite four-letter words on himself. English and Spanish were his only fluent languages which meant he’d just lost the bet.

To a girl no less.
I loved the suspense and mystery of the story. It was filled with action and drama, some nasty bad guys, and really balanced the romance between Zara and Lawson nicely. The story was well written and flowed nicely. The supporting characters were great and added further dimension to the book and the other characters.

I would definitely recommend this book to everyone, especially fans of romantic suspense!

I was given a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
