Hero of Mine
by Codi Gary
Series: Men In Uniform, #2
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: August 16, 2016
The men of Alpha Dog, a second chance program for at-risk teens, work hard and play hard. And when it comes to protecting the women they love . . . nothing stands in their way.
Danielle Hill used to live on the wild side, until a surprise pregnancy forced her to get her act together. Now her whole life revolves around her young son, and she will do anything to keep Noah’s heart protected, even if it means avoiding the Marine who makes her want to be oh so bad . . .
Tyler Best loves his family, his friends, and his life, and he plans on living it to the fullest after nearly losing it. But Tyler didn’t bank on running into a beautiful blond with blazing green eyes and temper to match his. Tyler always thought he wasn’t ready to settle down, but Dani and Noah make him rethink his playboy ways . . .
Only just as these two start to build something, a shadow from Dani’s past comes back to haunt them. But Tyler will do anything to keep her and Noah safe . . . anything.
I always love reading romances with military men, but throw in the fact that they work with dogs and troubled kids, these men of Alpha Dog have me hooked!
I just loved Tyler. He has no intention on settling down any time soon and has earned a bit of a player reputation. But from the moment he meets Dani his entire world suddenly shifts. He knows the pitfalls of getting involved with a single mother – his own mother was one so he knows how things can and probably will turn out. Unfortunately, the heart wants what the heart wants, no matter what logic and reason have to say, and after fate seems to keep pulling them together, its inevitable that the two need to see where their attraction takes them.
Dani was not my favorite character, but I admired her strength and the love she had for her son, Noah. She’s so concerned about not repeating the mistakes of her past that she can’t see something great right in front of her and at times it was a bit tiring to watch her try and sabotage the relationship that she and Tyler were building. I did love watching her reconnect to her “old” self – being fun, a bit care-free, and realizing that her needs were also important. There was an interesting dynamic between her and her mother during the story – this was another instance of where her insecurities and penchant for looking at the glass half empty came into play – and I’m glad we got to see that relationship play out a bit.
This was an easy read, meaning that the pace was perfect, the dialogue was easy, and there was a realness to the story that made it easy to relate to. There was a bit of suspense which provided just the right amount of drama and angst to bring the characters and relationships to a place where they could move forward and find a resolution without things going over the top.
I really enjoyed Hero of Mine and look forward to reading more from Codi Gary. I would definitely recommend this one to any romance lover!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review.
